Being more than Pinterest perfect and Instagrammable

It used to be just the movie stars who willingly subject to these sort of gazes: the gaze of everyone else who set the standards for what beauty is – some of whom perpetually look like they just tumbled out of bed. And some of which you can’t quite meet, because you don’t quite know what those standards are in the first place.

But these days, with the convenience of a camera attached to the device you will never leave behind, an #ootd (outfit of the day) would put you in that gaze of everyone else, the gaze that decides whether you are beautiful or not, by their vote of likes on Instagram. Of course, they don’t know how many shots it took or filters you used to make your picture Pinterest perfect. Well, you think, at least I did not go through the extreme of plastic surgery.

I wouldn’t compare plastic surgery to make up or using filters. They are definitely different extremes. But deep down, the drive to be dubbed as ‘beautiful’ fuels the need to acquire all the possible platforms that you could possibly buy or download. No one can deny wanting to be loved, accepted and special – myself included.

And in the buzz of the latest technology that you could buy to make yourself beautiful, we often forget that the beauty that cannot be bought, is the very jewel that sets you apart from the other girl, who bought exactly the same set of make up from the very same store as you.

You cannot photograph inner beauty, but it definitely shines through to the people who matters the most. You cannot capture a spirit, but it definitely can be felt through a genuine embrace. You cannot cannot buy character, which is why it is so much more precious than any chiseled face.

So don’t let inner beauty fade, not just fade from you, but fade from an entire generation. Guard your character, protect your spirit and be someone memorable. Otherwise, inner beauty could be a thing of the past, and perfection would be further from us than ever.
